UNDERSTAND YOUR HORSE – How horses learn

  • Frank Garner Lecture Block, Royal Agricultural University, Stroud Road, Cirencester GL7 6JS England, GL7 6JS United Kingdom (map)

Would you like to learn how best to train your horse?

Horse owners are constantly bombarded with marketing messages from a wide variety of horse trainers promoting their ‘method’ of training horses. But how can you assess whether these methods are effective or suitable for you and your horse?

Equine behaviourist & trainer Justine Harrison will guide you through this minefield by teaching you the science of how horses learn so that you can make informed decisions for yourself.

You will benefit from an improved understanding of how your own horse learns and how to teach your horse effectively with effective handling and training techniques.

You will learn about:

  • Learning Theory – the science of how horses learn

  • The effects different training methods have on the horse

  • How to create the best environment for your horse to learn

  • How to assess your horse’s emotional thresholds

  • What makes a great trainer

  • When to stop training

  • How to create a tailored training plan for your horse.

This evening talk is aimed at horse owners, students and equestrian professionals interested in learning more about horse behaviour.
